Is there a halal-certified restaurant inside Universal Studios Japan?
No. We could not find any restaurant inside USJ that holds halal certification from a named certifying body, and USJ does not advertise one.
That is the honest answer, and it matters more than it might sound. In Japan, "halal" and "halal-certified" are not the same claim:
- Halal-certified means a named body — for example the Japan Halal Foundation, the Nippon Asia Halal Association, or the Halal Certification Committee of Japan Islamic Trust — has audited the kitchen and issued a certificate you can look up.
- Muslim-friendly usually means the operator says a particular dish contains no pork and no alcohol. Nobody has audited the kitchen, and the same kitchen may also cook pork.
Everything inside USJ falls into the second category. If you need certified food, eat before you enter or after you leave. If you are comfortable with Muslim-friendly-by-ingredient, the section below is where to start.

Muslim-friendly restaurants inside Universal Studios Japan
None of these kitchens is halal-certified, and theme-park kitchens share fryers and grills. This is a shortlist to ask about on the day, not a guarantee.

How to ask on the day. Menus rotate by season, so name the ingredients rather than the dish:

Where to pray at Universal Studios Japan
USJ has no dedicated prayer room. What it has is a workable substitute.
Ask for a Family Service Room
USJ's Family Service Rooms are private nursing rooms. Muslim visitors can politely ask to use one for prayer. There are two:
- Near the Hollywood Area entrance
- Inside the Universal Wonderland area
How to ask: request permission from staff. This is a courtesy rather than a published service, so it is not guaranteed — and it means asking kindly, and at a moment when the room is free.
Bring your own prayer mat and qibla compass. The rooms are nursing rooms, so there is no mat and no qibla marking.
Do not count on a wudu facility. Perform wudu before you arrive, and ask at the park on the day if you need it.
What to pack for a Muslim-friendly USJ day
- Prayer mat — the Family Service Rooms are nursing rooms, so no mat is provided
- Qibla app or compass. In Osaka the qibla is roughly west-northwest, around 292 degrees from north
- Prayer attire if you wear one — the room is private, so this is comfortable
- Your own snacks. USJ's rules on bringing food in are stricter than many parks; check the current policy on your ticket page before you pack a full meal
- A translation card naming pork, lard, mirin and cooking sake in Japanese
Where to eat near the park
USJ sits in Konohana Ward, on Osaka Bay. The three useful rings are Universal Citywalk (at the gate), Tempozan (across the bay), and Namba (the city centre).
Universal Citywalk — at the gate
⚠️ Red Lobster appears in some guides as having a halal menu. We could not find any basis for that claim — the chain says nothing about halal on its own site, no certifying body is named anywhere, and bacon and sausage are on the menu. Alcohol is served. Treat it as a regular seafood restaurant.
NENE CHICKEN (same Citywalk building) is the closest thing to a halal option at the gate, and it displays a halal mark on its menu board. Here is what that mark actually covers:
- The chicken comes from a halal-certified supplier, and separate utensils are used for halal orders
- The kitchen is shared with non-halal cooking — including the fryer
- The certification belongs to the supplier, not the restaurant. NENE CHICKEN has no halal certification as a brand
So the ingredients are halal but the cooking is not separated. Whether that works for you is a personal call — if shared frying oil is a problem, this is not the place, and Namba is twenty minutes away.

Istanbul Table Halal Restaurant Tempozan (Kaigan-dori 1-1-10, Minato Ward) is listed as halal on the tenant page of Tempozan Marketplace, the shopping complex attached to Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan. No certifying body is named, so confirm the current policy when you arrive.
This is the most convenient pairing if you are combining USJ with the aquarium: the Captain Line ferry connects Universal City port and Tempozan in about ten minutes.
⚠️ There is a second "Istanbul Table" in Osaka, in the Yotsubashi area. That branch has closed. Search the Tempozan address, not the name alone.

Namba and Dotonbori — 20 to 30 minutes by train
This is where the certified options are.
Halal Ramen Honolu Osaka Namba is halal-certified by the Halal Certification Committee of Japan Islamic Trust (Nihon Islamic Bunka Center, the certifying body of Otsuka Mosque). The operator names its Ebisu, Asakusa, Shinjuku-Gyoen, Nagoya, Kyoto and Namba branches as certified on its own halal shop. The Namba branch also has a prayer space.
Beyond that, Namba and Dotonbori hold the densest cluster of halal dining in Osaka — Indian, Pakistani, Turkish, Malaysian and Japanese-style venues. Our Osaka halal food guide covers that area in full.

Where to pray outside the park
- Tempozan Marketplace (next to Osaka Aquarium) — pairs naturally with the Istanbul Table stop above
- JR Osaka Station — a designated prayer room, useful if you are travelling in from Kyoto or the airport
- Daimaru Shinsaibashi and Namba City — prayer spaces in the Namba–Shinsaibashi area
- Halal Ramen Honolu Osaka Namba — prayer space on site

Is Universal Citywalk a good alternative for eating?
It is the most convenient, but not the most verified. Red Lobster there lists a halal menu and also serves pork and alcohol. NENE CHICKEN is a user report. Neither is certified. Convenience and certainty point in different directions here.
Verdict
USJ works for Muslim visitors, but only with planning. The park gives you a private room to pray in if you ask, which is more than many attractions manage. What it does not give you is a certified meal, and no amount of asking changes that.
The pattern that works: eat a certified meal before you arrive or after you leave, pray in the Family Service Room, and treat anything inside the park as Muslim-friendly-by-ingredient rather than certified. If you want both certainty and convenience in one day, pair USJ with Namba rather than with Universal Citywalk.
